Ok I have the E6k with 4 Smart coils...

wired as follows


Ign out (pin 36) to both leading pin A
Digital 1 (pin 35) to T1 pin A
Digital 2 (pin 34) to T2 pin A

Pins B and C of all 4 coils are connected to the front rotor housing...

Pin D of all 4 coils is to Battery ground...

Pin E of all four coils is to fused and relayed battery positive...

The ECU is in Constant Duty Mode, Direct fire... I changed it to this before put in coil fuse...


(This is all only with the key/ignition on to clarify... probably obvious but oh well)
For some reason it worked fine when I first tried to start the car... Now it is popping fuses... I unplugged all coils and then put fuse in( is does not blow). Connected coils one at a time and it doesn't necessarily blow right away... usually when I connect two coils up.

I traced and double checked all connections... They are all soldered and heatshrunk. Even soldered the terminals in the coil connector to the wires.. I dont see any cuts or frayes... Everything in new wire and just redone..

Can someone point me in the right direction as far as tests. I have voltage at all e terminals, continuity to ground on all ground pins... what should the trigger wires from ecu read? Is there a way to test the coils now.... I'm now afraid i somehow ruined one... or maybe more... .but i dont see how??

Dwell mode is constant charge. Dwell duration should be set to 3.0ms for the wastespark application. Spark edge is falling. It's possible you have damaged the coils by selecting constant duty.

 

Oh wth... It says right on the front of the manual constant duty for intelligent igniters... Am I just an idiot or what?? Thanks for the help chris... is there a way I can test my coils with a multimeter?

 

Unfortunately, Haltech's description of an intelligent ignitor and AEM's description of a smart coil are in direct conflict.

 

ok well i guess i will probably have better luck starting my car next time... as long as a coil isnt fried... they didnt get really hot physicallly because i checked for that.. it must have blown a fuse right away and thats why i was having trouble getting it to start.... Jeeze...

 

pro tip, when setting up your coils, make sure they are not plugged into the ecu.

 

Did that... Just used the incorrect mode.. There was confusion with what the e6k manual said and what I actually need to do...

We've been in contact. When I priced everything out to him he told me he had found the coils cheaper somewhere else and wanted me to price match. He also told me the harness was too expensive and he'd make it himself. He also decided to tell me how much every other part he wanted was worth and what he would offer me. I have informed him that the price is the price and if he really wants the parts where to send a Paypal payment. I'd suggest, if he really has found the coils at a cheaper price, he should not be asking in here where to buy them.

Basically, he has wasted my time and insulted me and I won't deal with him at this point.

Yes i agree to all in here that at first i told you about the prices are high e.t.c and i found somewhere else better prices on the coils. Because somewhere else the price of them was $67 each and yours $72. But then when i realize that the prices you gave me are with the connectors included, i told you that i was wrong about this because i didn’t realize that the connectors were included in your price. And i apologized for this and i send you several emails that accept your prices and please send me a quotation to PayPal to pay you for the prices you were asking. But you didn’t. I prefer from you to give an answer that you are not interesting to sell me than not answering to my emails. And i don’t understand about the harness issue. If i am in place to make the harness by myself for $60 (that’s what the wires cost + a relay and a fuse) then YES for me to pay for a harness amount of $180 is kind of expensive don’t you think?
So by the time I apologize to you on my emails for being wrong about the coils prices since the other didn’t include the connectors and you did include them on this price, why you got insulted? Because you offer me a price for a harness triple as much it can cost me, and because I also have to wait 3 weeks for your company to make me the harness since I don’t have the time to wait so long?
You also wasted my time my friend since my car is almost finish and I don’t have the coils yet, and since you are not in place as it seems clearly now to offer me your products I will try to find somebody else.
Please try to be little bit more professionally flexible with your customers and don’t getting so easily offended. I am a professional too in a much bigger business and I always try to be more flexible in understanding my customers needs and first of all there meaning on their needs. sucks for you bud, maybe you shouldnt have pissed him off. Lugwig has helped lots of us for free and provides awesome customer support with every product he sells. $180 is very reasonable for harness

180 is not a bad price since the harness will probably be mil spec, labeled ,heat shrunk, soldered.... Professional quality.. Not to mention its guaranteed to be wired correctly...

 

Guys I didn’t mean that The price of $180 is expensive. What i mean is for somebody like me that have the knowledge to build the harness and have all the necessary tools to make this, well all what is needed is just the electric wires, shrink, connectors, heat resistant pipe e.tc. Well all these wont cost me more than $60. So total the harness will cost me $60 + labors + many hours so the total price to do this for somebody else will cost more than $150.
This is what I mean expensive I meant expensive for me not everybody.
