Haltech Irratic RPM signal
I ave a 81 rx7. I have fitted a 13b nonturbo engine and also fitted twin non-sequential turbos and i am running a Haltech F9 fuel only ECU. I have a 12A turbo distributor and i am having probs with the rpm signal. I am using a Holley Annihilator ignition system for the leading spark which all seems to be running correctly and the standard coil and ignitor for the trailing. The problem i am having is that when the car is idling the rpm readout from the laptop is saying it is varying from 950rpm to 22000rpm. Of course when it says 22000rpm the haltech is shutting down the injectors. I have tried changing ignitors on the trailing side and even using a bosch module and rewiring the whole damn thing. One possibility is that there is stray spark in the dissy cap and is causeing this as the annihilator puts out some 30.000v.....please help

I would make sure I have my signal to the F9 coming from a stock igniter. If not you will need to address the DIP switches inside the back of the F9 unit. These will adjust the filtering of the input from the coil to allow the F9 to know the propper RPM. You may find this in the manual. If the signal is from a stock igniter then the settings should be:
Switch 1: Off
Switch 2: On
Switch 3: On
Switch 4: On
Switch 5: Off
These settings should probably work using the signal from a tach output on the annihilator(thats if it has a tach output).
Good luck...

OK tried that but it still happens......it only seems to do it a low rpm...eg. idle to 1800rpm.....this is driving me insane...as far as the tach output for the annihilator....it fired and ran for about 30 seconds...then i lost the signal from that so i am back to running it from the ignitor of the trailing coil....it seems to work there the best
