Few little e6k flying lead install questions

I started the install of the flying lead harness last night (I have previously been using the k2rd adapter harness with the car, wanted to get rid of the stock engine harness) and have a few little questions.

1. How did you reuse the old connectors? Just clip the wires a few inches down and solider them in to the leads OR did you actually pull the old connectors out of the clips and use something to create new connectors inside the clip?

2. What did you wrap your new harness in after it was finished? Besides electrical tape, is there some good heat resistant stuff out there that can be used to wrap the harness?

3. For the things like Ignition (w tach), road speed and other that i can't think of, where they all come into a white plug in the kick panel that goes to a different harness, Did you just splice into the wires right at the plug or did you run new wires to their source?

4. My battery is relocated in the rear bin, would it be better to run the power lines to the battery instead of through the engine bay?

Sorry for all the noob questions, but this is the first time i've done an install like this. Thanks in advance.

Maybe I can answer my own questions because I took a a dive into the project tonight.

1. Going to solder the clips on to the harness wires.

2. I think i'm just going to use some generic wiring wrap and electrical tape unless someone has a better suggestions

3. The way the harness is laid out, all the wires have to run through the firewall (exept for the trim, spare a/d, and PC connector) so I guess that kind of limits my options.

4. the answer for 3 kind of answered my question 4. Looks like I can just pick it up at the normal battery location but one think i'm wondering is where is the best place pick up the "Switched 12vdc" - grey wire?

I used this stuff on my wires...makes things look very professional. And it holds up so well!

Although, you have to slip this stuff on before you solder/crimp so it takes a little planing.

Not sure where you are mounting your Haltech. But there are switched 12V sources all over the car. You just have to know where to look. Not sure if you have a S5...but I used a switched 12V that was on the old stock ECU plug.

I cant remember off hand...but on the s5 TII there should be one connector still left in the car after you remove the stock harness...

Here is the pin out...

Your wire for 12V switched should be in there.

Thanks for the reply.

This is being installed on an FD. I'm mounting it in the stock ECU location (kick panel), but the way the wiring lays out the all go out in a big plastic wrapped bundle for about 2 1/2 feet so you have to run all the wires out of the firewall. Or did you guys unwrap it and tap into the wires at the kick panel?

Also, where did you buy that wire covering? What is it called?
