i just had a PS1000 installed in my car....car runs great with it, WAAAYYYY better than with the microtech lt10 i had.... however, the ecu shuts off at random. it does it after about 10minutes of driving and then it's a lottery toss up from then on. i have checked all power sources, grounds, etc and all seem to be fine. i have noticed that the relay/fuse box does get hotter than normal. none of the fuses pop though. anyone have any clues? ideas? suggestions?

electrical work is not my forte, actually i hate it. but i have learned to deal with it. i am taking it back to the guy that did the install, but i just wanted to give him some ideas to follow up on.

specs are:
13Brew street ported
ps1000 with LS2 coils

 

Get a log of what happens when it shuts off and then what is happening when you try to restart it.

 

Mine did the same thing. And i had to send into Haltech and they replaced a Poly Fuse inside ECU. It has not shut down since.
I never shorted anything out on ECU or jumped the car when the battery was dead it just started doing it.

 

sounds like mine could have same issue then. it takes some messing around of the 10amp fuse to get it to restart. i usually have to pull the fuse about 6-7 times to get it to run, but for how long its anyones guess. so when it does, i haul *** to try and cover as much distance!! not driving the car at all until i get this resolved.

 

check also that the injector resistance suits the setting selected for injector current

 

thanks for the tips. i just saved a datalog and sent it to steve kan. since he tuned it and set this up, we'll see what he finds. keep the ideas coming. im really liking all the features of the haltech....no going back to MT for ****!!

 

I've seen this before as well, it was on a p1000 and it was the poly fuse that needed replacement.

 

hmm, so there is a fix for this now? that is great news. does it work on the E11v2?

 

i would probably start by working the ignition switch first and see if it cuts off before sending it in for service.. would suck to go through all of that for a simple faulty ignition switch.

 

could be anything

just clarifying... when you say the ECU shuts down, does that mean the car is still "on" ... are all the gauges still on? dash lights work? brake lights work? headlights? heater motor still blowing? radio turns on? power windows still go up /down?

do you still have fuel pressure, is the fuel pump still pumping?

a data log would be helpful, it's possible that a relay is improperly wired and back feeding into the ECU when engine temps are met... 10 minutes of run time, that could be the fan motor kicking in... sending 12 volts thru the ground signal?!?!

how long does it take for the car to start back-up after it shuts down? about the time it takes to cool off enough to turn the fan circuit back off?

I would start by double checking the wiring for any circuit that would get triggered after 10 minutes of run time

but i could be wrong... i've consumed a couple arrogant bastards this evening

 

In my case (PS2000) ECU does not shut off itself, just shuts down injector drivers, all other inputs/outputs works, verified by laptop when it shuts.......adding computer fans and cooling ECU board did solved problem......

 

Haltech has my ecu at this point. There was an issue with the board itself. Great customer service btw. Lookig forward to getting it back in a few days and finally using my car!!

 

That was my first thought also. I replaced that, even checked current but ecu still shut down.
