E8 Halwin v1.71 + Vista = BSOD

Hi guys,

Some help here would be great!

I am experiencing problems connecting in data mode (and online mode) when I start the ECU running E8 Halwin v1.71 with Vista on my laptop... the program installed fine and the com port is active... but it will boot into data mode and sit idle for 30 seconds before it crashes It is a fairly high end laptop also, so I think it is fair to cancel out and performance issues... I am using a com>usb adaptor, but unsure if that factors in to it at all...

Any ideas or is it just not supported by vista at all? should I attempt using the DOSBOX method?

Cheers for any comments

DOSBox is for old DOS programs not Halwin. Halwin should work fine on your vista machine as long as the serial port settings have been dialed in correctly.

Both on the software and on the laptop/adapter must be set the same so that it works. What brand of adapter do you have?

There are plenty of threads covering this, searching will net all the answers you seek.

Ok thanks a lot guys for your help, much appreciated

I will check the settings match for the ports in the software and drivers then give it another shot... if not luck I may have to purchase one of those high speed serial adaptors

Cheers!

Ok well I attempted it again with matched transfer rate settings (56700 or something) but still no luck, are you sure that if I buy this adaptor the problem will dissappear?

Cheers

Alright I didn't get that exact one but I went to the local Harvey norman and asked for a high speed adaptor with drivers for Vista, asked if it was returnable too haha. But it acutally worked perfectly and just went for a drive with no crashing!

So cheers for the info guys!

are you guys using vista home basic, or a premium?
i am seeing lots of USB peripheral errors with a machine i use
( nothing haltech, but in interfacing the PC to anything at all that it was previously happy with in XP )
i have suspicions that is actually the home basic form of vista that is the issue

Also install SP1 for Vista
MS has much improved compatibility in SP1.

Also try change the USB COM port # to below COM4.
I have issues with some serial programs not working on higher COMs
