E8/ E11 ignition setup, frustration
I am helping a friend setup his E8 on a 88 Rx-7 turbo II. I have done about 4 E6X setups and have all the ignition setups and trigger info. I applied the same setups to this E8 but it will not read rpm. The interesting thing is that the E8 has a trigger diagnostic, and it reads the home signal perfectly, and endlessly, just the trigger signal sits at 0. THe Cas is for sure good, and so is the wiring. I dont know if the ignition setup is wrong, and alot is different between the E6X and E8, for instance, I cant find the ignition toggle option on the aux out 1, its not listed. The trigger is setup for internal reluctors, gain of 3 each, filter at 0-2 (tried all) and the Home and trigger are both set to falling. If anyone with a E8 or E11 on a two rotor S4-5 Rx-7 has these setting PLEASE fill me in. This sucks *** so far. Thanks
Keep changing the TRIGGER gains until it reads something.
If you jack them all the way up, it should trigger randomly even with the CAS not spinning.
If you don't get ANYTHING, something is wrong.
I put money it's wiring.

I haven't installed an E8 yet but I have one sitting here. I was going over everything the other day and noticed that the trigger loom is configured differently than the E6 series. Take a look at the wiring schematic and you'll see what I'm saying. On the E8 the pinout is as follows:
Red - 12V+
Blue - Ground
Yellow - Trigger
Green Home
On the E6X the Red and Blue are both ground references. My guess is that you've wired the E8 exactly like you would an E6 and are sending 12V+ to the trigger instead of ground resulting in no trigger signal. Again, I haven't installed one yet but if I did I would start by using the blue ground reference for both the trigger and home.
Anyone with E8/11 experience care to comment?

Well it worked!! The car fired up and runs pretty good. ONly 3 of the four wires from the E8 are used, just like you thought. Now I need to figure out how to make the trailing to work, neither are firing. I dont know if the wiring is different for this as well or what. Do you not use "aux out 1" on the trailing, and just used ignition 2 and 3? If so that may be my problem. Hopefully someone knows. Thanks

Well everything is working perfectly now, he had a bad trailing coil. If anyone else uses the E8 on their FC here is how I its wired.
Blue on the haltech trigger acts as a ground for both home and trigger reluctors. Red on the haltech is not used for the FC, and wouldnt be used on the FD either. Thanks to C. Ludwig for this info.
Ignition 1 is leading as always, Ignition 2 is on trailing like the E6, Ignition 3 is used instead of aux out.
In the settings, multitooth must be selected, /falling/ on both home and trigger reluctors. The haltech automatically sets up the trailing for FC on these settings.
I set the filters to level 2 on both home and trig, and gain to 4 on both as well. This gave perfect rpm readings and very nice startup in the cold.
