E6X, E8, or Platinum?

hey, im debating whether or not to switch to a Haltech ecu since my S4 TII harness isnt lookin too good. i've been looking around and i know the basic progression of each ECU, but im just wondering what is the best ECU for about 300 - 350hp ballpark? a E8 or E6X. whats the pros and cons of either as well. also, will it just be better to get a Platinum E8 if i do go with an E8.

My plans for the car:
rebuilt S4 TII
street ported
BNR Stage 1 or 2 S4 or S5 Turbo
FMIC
external fule pump (like Aaron did on his Tina Project)
3in dual w/ RB mufflers
FD UMI -> S4 LMI

i just pulled the engine and trans out yesterday, and i want to take my time with this project and make it right the first shot. so a good portion of that car mod list is subjected to change some, but thats the outlines of what i want done. thanks for the help guys.

Platinum all the way. The E8 is being phased out, so if you wait very long and are buying new it might not even be an option. With the price difference between the Platinum and E6X only being a couple hundred dollars it's a no brainer. It's a much better ECU with many more features. Drop me a PM if you want a quote.

alright. so Platinum is better. i was just about to ask the diff between the 1k and the 2k, but its just the updated versions of the E8 and the E11v2, correct? and the wiring harness correspond with them as well. E8 - 1k, E11v2 - 2k. as for actually buying one, im going to hold off on that for a while. i want to get the mechanical all sound before i jump into the electrical of the car. also, i live right around the corner from StaticX! so i plan on talking with them in the near future as well when i get to that point. thanks Lud!

Good idea. Its best, especially with an ECU, if it doesn't sit around forever before you try it out. It may have a problem (godforbid................because its *never* happened before! ) and the faster you let them know about it after buying, the easier the service will be.

They were good enough to replace my dead E6X which sat aroudn for a year, but it would've been easier if I'd bought it a month before hand.

no no, I'm not saying that.

I'm saying if it is DOA (for whatever reason, shipping damage, faulty box, whatever) you won't know until you hook it up. And if it sits there for a year and a half before that happens, the factory may not support it because the sale was made so long ago.

The theory of storing it is sound. Its not milk, it won't go bad if you put it in the closet!

Yeah thats right, Haltech usually has a 1 year warranty on faulty units, or failures in hardware, most of the time they will fix it for free, other worst case scenarios they would warranty replace the unit, or, if its human/installation error, they normally just charge 75 bucks for the fix, plus shipping it back to you. Unless its an old DOS based unit, which get sent to Oz for repairs.

But most of the time repairs are pretty quick to be delt with.

But yeah, Classicauto is correct, it wont go bad from just sitting on a shelf, it will just get dusty

My repair (from giving the unit more than 16 volts from my battery charger) was I think $375 and they had to ship it to AU. Took I think a little over a month to get it back. Wasn't happy but what could I do?
