Advance..

Just wondering what boost pressures/advance degrees you all are running.

Thanks!

Rat

This is a very relative question, it will depend on your mod list, type of engine, ignition system, power level desired and even what fuel you use.

So, for a Stock motor, stock boost levels and stock timing would be ideal, but for a bridge ported, alcohol burning, big turbo engine, it will be totally different.

I just need some relative measures.

94 Octane.
At 0 psi 30 BTDC, ramping down linearly to 12 degrees at 18 psi. Split is 10 degrees.

Well, this issue came up when I was on the dyno. I was able to run 19.2 PSI safely on the dyno with alchy injection, but my HP output was about 298. That seemed a tad low so I checked my mapping (Stock hitman map). Turns out that any pressures above 14 PSI, my timing goes from 8 to about 4 degrees at approx 19 PSI. I was thinking this might have been a tad low, and after some research, I have found out that it is. So my friend is re-writing the timing map, and I am dropping the boost back down, and we are going to see what happens from there.

dude thats some seriously weak timing... why do you have it so retarded? and with so much boost? no wonder you didnt make any power

i'm running:
15*@13psi
14*@14psi
12*@15psi

and i made 330whp@13psi with my t04b, granted it has a big hotside... but you should easily be making over 300 at 15psi with that big of a compressor, and easily more at 19psi if the turbine wheel doesnt make it fall off.........
i am talking in 93 octane BTW

Correct me if im wrong? but is this an alcohol motor? or a gasoline with aclohol injection? Also, yes, those HP numbers are very weak. At 15psi at anything over 3500rpms you can get away with around 17 degrees and be making well over 320hp on pump gas.

A TO4E, .70 A/R turbine, O trim, with a .60 A/R compressor 57 trim will net even more power than a TO4B with a big tubine housing. If its P trim on the turbine, even better, maybe even make over 350HP at 16-18psi, depending on the tuning/tuner.

Is this an S4/5/6? motor?

j-rat is running a stock-port s4 motor. gasoling with alcohol injection.

as far as the turbo, all i know is its a BNR stage4 (which i believe is a 60-1 in a t04b housing and an o-trim turbine wheel?)

There is a miss conception on the 60-1 compressors, a 60-1 isnt achieved with a TO4B compressor housing, no matter what trim wheel you put in it, the TO4E is the one that gets that and its usually a .70 A/R housing with the biggest wheel you can fit in there.

In any case, the issue is weak numbers from that engine. Any of the maps i have reach a decent enough timing curve to give more than 300hp at those boost levels, and i would think the alcky would let you run even more timing.

How big is the turbine housing? if its anything bigger than a .84 its too big for a stock motor.

Well, Trevor remapped the ECU, and it pulls like a mad man.. Ran a 10 Degree split, and ran the timing up abut 7 degrees. Still knock free (I run a knock alert).

5k's his torque peak...I'm just working from my memory here (might not be 100% right) but this should give you the rough skeleton of what we're running.

11psi - 3k - 14*
11psi - 5k - 18*
11psi - 7.5k - 23*

16psi - 3k - 10*
16psi - 5k - 14*
16psi - 7.5k - 19*

Not like he'll ever see 23psi on purpose but:
23psi - 3k - 6*
23psi - 5k - 10*
23psi - 7.5k - 15*

Of course everthing is smoothed out between those points.

Just looked at my notes...correction:
11psi - 3k - 16*
11psi - 5k - 20*
11psi - 7.5k - 25*

remember that you can flaten springs n a lot of bad things can happen w/ low timing "@ high BOOST" high EGT's etc............. jus a note from my experience

What are you thinking? Maybe no less than 12-13 degrees at the torque peak for the really high boost area (20+ psi)?

Kind of a mute point anyway though. If he's running 20+ psi on the normal 91 octane he runs his motor is not going to be happy.

tru that, to a point. you can retard on a 1:1 ratio based on your vac map so w/ the basics in mind say 35 deg @ 0 in vac come down 1 deg per psi. watching your peak torque then ramp back up after peak torque. I would NEVER run over 20 psi on 91 octane not enough juice in my opinon.

Interesting timing curve. I'm wondering if you are able to run that much advance after peak torque mainly due to the extra safety of the alcho injection?

My Steve Kan timing is map is not a ramped map like that. No timing increase after peak torque.
