GB: SakeBomb Garage FPSpec Long-Stroke Ohlins DFV

Hey guys, wondering if there's any interest in putting together a group buy before the official launch of our new FPSpec (custom) DFV's. As you've probably seen on a number of build threads and around the forum, these are custom Ohlins DFV's we build from the ground up (we purchase raw threaded DFV shock bodies in longer lengths from Sweden, apply custom SBG race-winning valving curves, custom valving rates, springs etc. Details below).

All SakeBomb Garage FPSpec DFV's include:
-Custom SBG Exclusive Ohlins Long-Stroke DFV Damper Bodies (longer than stock)
-SBG Fully Floating Top Hats (maintains perfect alignment between chassis and suspension without imposing bending loads on the damper + perfect spring alignment to maintain consistent spring force)
-Optional Lower Spherical Mounts and Billet Rear Forks (for race applications)
-Custom Yellow Swift Main and Helper Springs (Ohlins Springs on Grand Touring kit)
-Custom SBG Designed Damper/Valving Curves
-Filled with 1304 Ohlins Race Shock Oil (buttery smooth compared to the generic shock oil in standard DFV's)
-Custom Spring rates per kit (long stroke shock travel allows for soft spring rates for street use - vanilla DFV's can only go down to 11kg rear due to lack of stroke - all the way up to 16kg+ for race applications WITH helper springs!)
-FPSoec High Torque Aluminum Spanner Wrenches Included!
-SBG Lifetime Chassis Consultation and Setup Service Included!

Website link with more info (actual product page coming... don't mind the place-holder pics for now and incomplete option sets).

BUMP for custom Ohlins if you want to see this happen... it's already happening. But we can run a group buy to kick off this *NEW PRODUCT*

FPSpec floating top hats and lower mounts available separately if you've already got Ohlins

are you able to match valving to higher spring rates? Like if I wanted 15kg/13kg front/rear? Would be interested in hearing pricing options.

I talked to them about these, and they can accommodate custom rates/valving.

I'm trying to decide between regular and FPSpec Ohlins - a price dip on the FPSpec may make up my mind for me :P
How many people do you need for a group buy?

Absolutely... the two rates we have listed are only recommended rates... we can do anything all the way up to 18+KG and as low as 8/6kg rear for the ultimate grand-touring setup! info@sakebombgarage.com if you want to chat about rate setup for custom applications/aero/sways/etc.

10-15 people on board for a group buy. I think the list would fill up pretty quickly if there was enough people for a one-time introductory group buy. But this would just be for the introduction of the kit... we won't be doing multiple group buys on these, so it's a once and done sort of thing.

I’m also in between on regular spec vs fp spec Öhlins. I’d be interested in a group buy. Curious your opinion on the need for upgrades on stock Öhlins. Pm me if you have a chance in your busy schedule.

Heath, did you get my email from last week with Ohlins questions?
How much of a discount do you think there would be on a group buy?

I'd be down for 2 sets if there is a decent discount. Otherwise I have to stick with what I've already got (HKS Hypermax).

Very tempting to trade up the out-of-the box DFVs I have now. They're really good but I know they could be even better on the street with these spring rates.

I'd also consider a set as I believe the regular ohlins road and track are a little soft when running 285 r comps.

Compared to vanilla DFVs, how much longer are the bodies, and how much longer is the stroke?

Might as well start a group buy list so we can get a price approximation. Add your name to the list if you’re interested and will likely purchase soon:

1) $lacker - 1 set

Don’t see these listed on the site. I’d like the tophats and would like to take advantage of this Labor Day sale :P

Is there a deadline set on this yet? I'd be interested in the 8/6-kg set-up.

I've been running Eibach 450/375-lb. springs on my DFV's for about 3,000 miles and it is by far the best of the 4 set-ups I've run on the street over the years.

Is there going to be a group buy? I'm on the fence about the fpspec but if there is a discount from a group buy then I'll jump.

Totally depends on you guys... we need a number of people on board (min 10 sets) to run a GB on these, and 2019 Ohlins has some big price hikes coming. So we can get this to materialize the better.

GB Interest List: (please list your user name, requested spring rates (we can valve for any rates, or ask us for help choosing spring rates), lower mount (rubber or spherical (Race))

What's the difference between rubber and spherical lower mounts?
Do the spherical mounts transfer much more vibration? Do they have dust shields? Require lubrication? Are they serviceable? What specific issues (compared to rubber) do they address?
Thanks!

Springs come with the FPSpec Suspension kits. These are not revalved standard Ohlins kits, they are physically longer Ohlins DFV Shock bodies, which are valved with our valving curves for each order. We can do custom spring rate profiles for your tires/aero/sway bars/etc. For custom rate info please email us info@sakebombgarage.com

The FPSpec Long Stroke can run *SOFTER* than 11kg springs for Grand Touring rates (unlike the standard vanilla Ohlins which are too short to run under 11kg), OR can run higher race spring rates which require more stroke due to the need for helper springs. Helper Springs are required over 13kg, but we can also help pick up additional traction with helpers for track setups.

Lastly we have a race lower mount (spherical) OR the standard rubber Ohlins lower mount (which absorbs more high frequency road noise vs a spherical lower). All shocks come assembled, and INCLUDE floating top hats, and aluminum FPSpec high torque wrenches standard.
