Dead pedal cover profile is all figured out. I still have to run a test piece of both covers, hopefully this will get done next week if the shop can fit it in. These would be made of 0.062" thick aluminum so they will match.

The complete dead pedal replacement will take a bit longer to get all mounting points correct and get it structurally sound. This can be done out of the 0.063" Alum or 18 GA stainless, with the aluminum obviously being the cheaper option. The two materials are actually quite comparable when it come to rigidness in a part as small as this.

I am working on the pricing but don't want to lay a number out there until I get a quote back for the tooling to make the holes have a dimple(texture) and our purchaser gets me raw material pricing.

Did the pricing and for a run of about 20 dead/gas pedal cover combos it will run around $70 shipped for the items.

I am still working on getting the sample pieces done, shop is too busy to fit random stuff in right now.

sign me up for a set of both... also, an idea on the dead pedal... if you put a second sheet under all the holes, it wouldn't get filled with dirt, mud, whatever that comes off from your shoe. and, like if the outer was powdercoated black, the inner one could show through a color. just a little touch of custom. Also, could you shape the gas pedal a little more race? heres an example

Just my opinion but I'm happy with your design for the accelerator pedal cover. My experience with 'race' pedals is that they like to get hung up on the floormat which translates to some nice bounces off the rev limiter

Contouring closely to the stock pedal with a look that matches the brake and clutch pedal is my preference. I can do without the diamond plating.

This price would be for the pedal covers, not the full replacement dead pedal. Also, this price may come down a bit because I am digging up some old tooling to try to get a desirable emboss of the holes. The full replacement dead pedal will be a totally different price because it involves more material, bends, and spacers to fit correctly. This is still in the design process though.

These may come in the future but as a first product I am focusing on direct match covers.

I thought about the idea of another sheet below and it would be very simple to do, I may punch one of these out to show both versions. Powder coating can probably be arranged if it is desired.

Unfortunately they wont match the factory brake and clutch pedals. That look would require aluminum casting which I do not have the equipment for. Right now they will be punched aluminum parts with 0.236" extruded holes for texture and grip. I can probably make covers for clutch and brake pedal as well to make a completely matching set.

The pictures show what the holes in the covers will look. Ignore all the holes as it was a setup sheet used until a desired hole look was found. Look at the hole labeled 0.236.

I have a right hand drive factory dead pedal cover that I am willing to let you borrow as a template. Just say the words. It is aluminum. There are less holes in it than what is in the dead pedal template you created, the holes appear to be punched and there are no holes below the slight bend at its bottom lower third. The RX-7 logo is just slightly above that bend. The factory holes are .273 inches in diameter. Hole spacing measured from outside diameter of one hole to another is uniformly .351 inches. The dead pedal cover is .08 inches thick, lip height is .06 inches, and the lip ring is .052 inches thick. The holes closest to the perimeter are .34 inches measured from the interior edge to the outer edge of the cover on the vertical plane and .38 inches on the horizontal. Measured from the outside edge, the first offset horizontal row starts .73 inches from the top (horizontal) edge and .97 inches from the vertical edge. I am in for just the dead pedal cover.

 

If these do not fit the look everyone is looking for I will definitely take you up on that offer. the design I have programmed right now should be similar to the pedal that Ceylon posted a picture of on the first page . The holes will be slightly smaller, by about 0.030". I was hoping to have a few sets of these done for the memorial meet this past Saturday but production got held up on important jobs.

Here is a picture of what will be produced in the sample run. The holes with the bigger hole around them will be the embossed holes.

This weekend I mounted my JDM gas pedal cover. As you can see from post 15, its mounts were countersunk and designed for flat socket bolts so the bolt head was flush with the pedal surface when I snugged it against the mounting nut. Not sure what kind of mounting hardware you had in mind for the covers. Just giving you vote for this type of fastener for both covers. Also, I decided against mounting my RHD JDM dead pedal cover on to the OEM dead pedal since it just looked bad during a mock up. However, when I had the OEM dead pedal out of the car and looked at it from underneath from a mounting standpoint, I saw a lot of narrow vertical structural ridges that could get in the way of the mounts. Perhaps you could reduce the number of mounting points and use three or four of the punched holes for the same. I doubt that a reduced number of mounting points would be an issue with the inner edge catching on a shoe and bending as the cover's thickness should be stout enough to prevent that. There is a slight bend in the pedal just above the step down sizing at the cover's lower third and I am guessing that strategically placing the mounting holes would hold the cover flush to the dead pedal without the need to design a bend in the cover. Again, just my thoughts and observations. I applaud your design and envy your ability to do all of this. Can't wait for the production run. Thank you.

 

Production still hasn't had a chance to slip these in. I have my clutch pedal out now so I am going to get a layout for that this weekend which will also cover the brake pedal so it will be a full cover set.

So i got one piece run of the finished profile. The profile came out great but I messed up my programming on the holes and emboss. I will have to reprogram it tomorrow and change the hole pattern to accommodate the size of the tool because it would form a hole and then flatten it back down on the next hole. I will also have solid backing plates for these to give a nice background instead of the plastic holes behind it.

I've been trying to get them on a machine but its been busy at work. After the first run in 0.060" alum I think a better material will be a thinner stainless steel, maybe 22 Ga (0.031"). This is because the aluminum tends to bend, rather than flex to conform to the pedal, leaving visible lines. I'm definitely working on this though.

For the full pedal replacement, Progress is halted for the moment because my car has been hit in the past and the firewall isn't exactly as it should be. Once I get a replacement shell for my car this should take shape pretty rapidly.
