Carbon Fiber Intake Hard Pipes

Fellow member Shizat is in communication with Grant at SMB Australia about the possibility of producing a run of carbon intake pipes.
As a vendor, they have previously been involved in the production of carbon parts for the famous RX7 SP.
We'd like to gauge purchasing interest in these carbon pipes, in order to negotiate the size and cost of the run with the vendor.

The advantage of hard pipes in general is that they are smoother, which may help airflow to the turbos.
The advantage of carbon is that it does not transmit heat like metal does, so they should assist in keeping turbo inlet temperatures low.

Common FD hard pipes typically have fitment issues with the primary turbo pipe, and we expect superior fitment from there composite moldings for stock and stock-similar(m2, autoexe, pfs) intakes.
We are not committed to any pricing at this time, but SMB still lists a similar product(PART NO.: MSP7TH) on their site, which may be a general indicator(please note it is AUD, not USD): Mazda RX7 Zone
This is purely a thread to gauge interest at this time.

Some pictures of the SP carbon pipes are attached, not sure if the same of a new mold would be used at this time.

The rubber accordion hoses are what is replaced.

Here's a couple pictures of the rx7 SP intake. You can see the secondary hose well in these pictures. We're confirming the same mold is available and will work.

I believe they do, will confirm. If so, they can be used with a variety of CAI's that would use the stock pipes such as AutoExe-PFS-M2 and the likes.

Regards.

Out of curiosity alone-

Have you guys confirmed he has some stock or ability to make the other CF SP pieces shown and priced on the website?

For instance $1,135 for the airbox/duct isn't bad compared to the other CF options and owning SP pieces are like owning a bit of FD competition history.

We'll try to confirm that as well, but my understanding is they still have the molds and can produce these parts.

I have been planning to buy these, especially since the exchange rate is in our favor. I am in. I do not need the silencer but I will see how this goes. Thank you!

I sent an email asking about their available CF products. I will update here when I get a response.
For those that have their names on the list, please indicate what type of intake you are using. Stock-M2-AutoExe. This will help clarify things.
jZA80- If you can specify the part numbers that you are interested in, I will ask on your behalf.
Thanks.

Could be interested in an airbox with duct, and an intercooler duct if it works with a Blitz SMIC. Have a stock airbox now, I am assuming that the pipes would work with either a stock box or their intake?

I'm pretty sure the intercooler duct would only work with the SP intercooler or the equivalent pettit coolcharge intercooler(coolcharge 1?)

Here's one of the pettit intercoolers FS: https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generati...-sale-1110657/
You can see it's not_similar in core size to the Blitz.

I'm also pretty sure if we get a substantial order together that they'll make us whatever we want, and I would be interested in the intake also.

6. jza80 - Stock airbox

Interest List - Other Parts - (specify part)
1. jza80 - SP intake
2. Narfle - SP intake

These manufacturers and vendors are good, but a little tough to work with across continents and time zones. So, please bear with us while we separate fiction from reality. Thank for your interest and discussion!

I didn't realize we had to specify an intake on the list.

Currently I am running with HKS filters on custom piping, so I imagine I would use these similarly along with silicon 90 degree couplers for the primary turbo intake.

Mostly we're just checking intended applications to clarify good fitment. For intake boxes such as m2 or autoexe, the interface points are static as defined by the intakes themselves. We believe they are all roughly stock and that they *should* work with these pieces. But, we intend to test fit and verify to the best of our ability.

Interested in the full intake with pipes depending on pricing. Does it use an OEM size filter?

We've been in contact with the vendors and the molds are still present. We are told that the SP carbon intake pips will not work with stock or others. We are aware of tooling costs to make new ones, but we're not sure theres enough compatibility or interest to justify tooling and unit production costs.

The SP intakes are still available with all parts, and we could organize a group purchase of those or other SP parts, if there is committed financial interest. I'm not sure there would be much in the way of savings, but the bulk purchase would likely make the commissioning of the parts much more convenient for interested parties. The vendors are half a world away, and very busy. So our collective order helps get priority manufacturing.
