Argon Bubble? What’s that?


When we were first exposed to titanium in the performance automotive industry almost two decades ago, one thing always stuck with us; the fact that when you welded titanium, it needed to be welded in an argon gas environment, or, bubble. Ask anyone that works with titanium and they’ll tell you that a 99.999% pure argon shield on both sides of your weld is needed to make sure it isn’t contaminated.


What that means in business is: we sweat the small stuff.

Now THAT'S out of the way...

Since we had a decent amount of interest in our feeler thread, our Group Buy for this inaugural run of FD3S Titanium Hood Props is officially OPEN.






The standard finish is what you see pictured; heat treated with the signature titanium "burnt" look (each bar will be unique since this is a hand done process). However, we can also offer them 100% polished, without the coloring if requested (reference the middle part of the bottom photo).



We will also offer a Hardware Pack if you want to take this opportunity to replace all the clips / holders at the same time. The Hardware Pack includes; part #s FD01-56-642, G144-52-518C & FB01-52-512 (#6, 7 & 12 on the diagram). The price on this is $15, regardless of the number of Group Buy participants. You can also order these yourself from a Mazda dealer.

Group Buy Interest / Pricing
We initially were targeting 50 pieces, but that seems like a tough nut to crack. So even though we've scaled back the projections a little bit, we still want to make sure this initial run offers the best pricing possible.

25+ = $80
11-24 = $100
1-10 = $120

As long as the original interest list comes through - we should already be in the second tier of pricing. However, if we can get a little nudge we'll hit top tier no problem. I'll shoot a PM to everyone on the interest list and let them know this Group Buy is now open.

Group Buy Shipping / Payments
We're targeting Feb 1 as a shipping date, although they may ship earlier depending on a few factors.

In the meantime, we'll start collecting PayPal payments for guys that are IN. We will collect $100 with the goal of hitting 25 - we'll refund everyone $20 if/once we hit 25 paid orders. Please add $15 for the Hardware Pack if you want one.

All prices include insurance, PayPal fees and shipping in the CONUS. We'll ship to AK, PR and HI - along with International - but we just need to quote shipping on a case-by-case basis.

So, right now - we have the "burnt" titanium everyone knows and loves. We also have fully polished - which a few people have opted for.

Just curious, what were you hoping for?

 

A little bird informed me that Titanium could be anodized any solid color on the “Titanium Spectrum” such as blue, gold or purple. It would be great to have the option of getting a hood prop anodized in one of those colors.

 

I'm in for a polished version! Keep my car moving towards the perfect "Singer" RX7.

 

I would also like to get the polished version! unless you guys can get like a satin finish that would be awesome!

Yes! This is true - you can get a lot of cool effects out of titanium using voltage for the anodizing process. Unfortunately, right now we're not setup with the equipment to do it. But who knows what the future holds!
