On a side note, how many people would be interested in a strut tower brace? Next time I'm at the machine shop I'll be dropping mine off to have measured drawings made up.

I'm in for a strut tower brace and a R&P if ever that happens :)

While waiting for the front hub adapapters, I test-fit the first-gen brake lines into the second-gen calipers (Raybestos part numbers FRC3841, FRC3842 ) and noticed the thread pitch is the same, but it appears the 1st-gen brake line fitting is too long. The 1st-gen fitting (approx 1/2" long threaded portion) only threads halfway into the caliper.

Can someone please verify the 2nd-gen fitting really is only appox 1/4" long? And any adapter ideas?

Hmm must be why respeed sold specific brake lines for this swap

If this helps,I have done a couple 4 lug to 5 lug swaps on FC's.

The 4 lug flex lines will screw into the 5 lug 4 piston caliper.

Now,If I remember clearly the front flex Line will Bottom out and leave thread at the top of the caliper.
TWO WAYS(well 3) to get around this is I have done(3rd is not really my cup of tea)
A: get the small 6 inch hard line that the 5 lug 4 piston caliper comes with.
B: Use a couple crush washers to make up the difference. I have done it and I believe my car still has it on there..6 years later.I am just too lazy to switch to braided lines!

C:..(my "eh..not really but doable" remedy suggested by another member a while back) is to machine the line and take the excess off the flex line. That way the line will fit into the caliper without bottoming out.

Best of Luck guys...and KANSAS!..thanks man for looking after the guys needing this!

What's the status on completion?

KansasCityREPU 08-25-14 08:08 PM

I called them Friday and he gave me the same answer...next week. I hate dragging you guys along so if anyone has any doubts let me say I will deliver. With that said, if anyone wants a refund just let me know. I'm so sorry but I'm at the mercy of the machine shop. For the next round I will not be taking any deposits and only sell what I have in my hands.

I am totally cool with the process; it takes as long as it takes. I am so stoked to be getting these at all and am grateful for all the hard work you've put into this. :)

Update?
Any chance we'll get the front hub adapter and bracket in time for test day Sunday, Sep 7?

Cool to see the one picture of the rear, interested to see how the fronts turned out...

From KCREPU:

*******************************************
Here is the newest update. I picked up six front BBK sets yesterday. I have contacted the first six people on the list to let them know.

*I also placed an order with Fastenal for all the bolts, washers, and the springs. They should be here on Monday. There is one big washer. I found one that is close and might work but I need to determine where it is used.

I have been promised the rest of the orders from the machine shop in about a week.

These are sitting on my kitchen table right now.

Would the BBK allow me to keep my 14s?

YoungRotaries 09-25-14 08:43 PM

Is the kit going to be made after the GB? I just don't have the cash for the kit now for the kit but I very VERY much want to get a front and back setup later if it's going to be available?

BOBLOOK 09-27-14 02:57 PM

If any one felt from the group buy let me know

mschiap 10-05-14 04:41 PM

We installed the big brake kit yesterday. The parts are high quality and the installation is straightforward. We used an oxyacetylene torch to heat/expand the hub adapter. We started with the parts in an oven, but they were not hot enough - maybe if we had waited longer the oven heating would have been enough.

Parts:
Big brake kit
Raybestos calipers
stock Mazda 2nd-gen short hard brake lines FB05-43-720B (L) and FB05-43-710B (R)
2nd-gen stainless flexible brake lines (Goodridge via Mazdatrix but I had to buy a set of all 4)
Junkyard 5-lug hubs and rotors
Stock 2ndgen wheels: 15x6 "pinwheel?" (5-1/8" backspace). AND 15x6.5 BBS mesh (5-3/8" backspace)

On our car, with 205mm tires and homemade coilovers with 2.5 inch diameter springs, we need a minimum 3/4" wheel spacer with the "pinwheel" wheels and a minimum 1" spacer with the BBS mesh. YMMMV.
I think the center bore on these stock wheels is 59.6mm.

Got my set on Saturday. The red paint looks awesome in person, and the overall quality is great. I can't wait to get my new wheels for this kit. Thank you KansasCityREPU.

echo412 10-13-14 10:12 AM

Eric when do you think you are going to have the rest of them? Thanks

mschiap 10-13-14 09:34 PM

We had the big brakes on the front of our endurance car this weekend. They worked great! Even with no brake ducts we ran approx 14 hours (two 7-hour races) with no cracked brake rotors. A big improvement over the stock rotor/hub which was cracking with regularity.

Please mark me down for another set of fronts (hub adapters and brackets)
