Rotary Performance - Can't Say Enough Good Things!!!
Hey everyone, I just wanted to post about my many experiences with Chris, Mary, Dave, Brandon, and Matt up at Rotary Performance over the past few years.
I started out dealing with them ordering parts and oil and the like when I was living in Orlando about 5 years ago or so. I mainly delt with Mary then occasionally having a short chat with Chris. I never had a bad dealing with them and Mary was always super helpful.
Fast forward to July 2012. I am living in California with a motor that is burning oil like no other and about to move back to Houston, Texas. In the move I ship the car to Dallas to have them fix the oil problem which I thought was a leaky turbo. Turns out the motor that was in it when I bought the car in 2007 that had about 20,000 miles on it (built by rx7store.net) was over ported to the point where the outer oil control ring was being directly introduced to exhaust gases.
At this point I started spending alot more time talking to Chris. He was absolutely awesome to deal with taking tons of time to let me feel comfortable throughout the process and answer any questions I had and explain any parts that I might need and not need and giving great feedback on each thing.
We ended up sourcing a low miles core from Japan and went with a streetported, 3mm factory apex seal motor. I picked it up in late October and started the break in process. I drove it back to Houston, got to drive it around for around 500 miles or so then drove it back up and changed my intakes from the Rotary Extreme intake Box to the Trust twin intakes as well as adding the Rotary Aviation OMP adapter (which required modifying the factory turbo drain line due to the OMP being pushed out about an inch or so.) that allowed me to fill a 2 quart resivour with clean 2 stroke engine oil. The car made 300rwhp @ 10 psi and 336rwhp @ 13 psi. The car had never run better after they got done with it.
Fast forward once again to December of 2013. I developed an oil leak on the compressor side of the secondary turbo and was blowing oil out of my BOV and the secondary relief valve (I'm not sure what it is called so don't get too angry with me. Haha). I decided at this point to start saving up for a single turbo swap and I was going to go with a Garrett GTX30R. I got the money together in May and paid for the kit in advance. The waiting game began. After some more research and consulting with Dave and Chris up there, we decided to go with a GT35R instead for my goals with the car and I would have very similar spool and have the ability to flow more on the top end. GREAT!
I was the first person they sent this particular kit to and I have to say everything was very well put together. They utilized the Tial Stainless Steel V-Banded Turbine Housing in the 1.03 A/R. Everything fit perfectly apart from my being alone and not having much help for the install so I had some exhaust leaks from the V-bands because of my inadequecies
. The install itself was very straight forward and simple as far as the turbo everything needed was provided and all I had to do was put the turbo on, hook up the hoses and it was in!
I also upgraded from the 1300cc secondary injectors that I was running to 2200cc Injectors. The fuel rail, and everything provided was put together very well and had very high quality to them. The same goes for all the downpipe with the wastegate rerouted back in, the exhaust manifold, and the like. Another great thing, it is all setup to be able to run on emissions.
I have to add in the hilarity (to me at least) when my grandmother is at the house when a box of more parts came in and I have her look through it and check for everything (I was at work and wanted to be able to let them know that everything was there.) and the first thing she sees is a hand written letter from Dave "You've Got To Stay In It!!!" The confusion in her voice just made me laugh.
I drove it up this last Thursday 07/24/2014 and was expecting to be back on the road Friday evening to get to work for Saturday. Got up there Thursday evening and got to the shop at about 9am the next day to get everything straightened up from my botched installation then tune.
There ended up being a few things that needed to be fixed first:
Replace a secondary injector connector that I broke when reinstalling.
An oil leak from the front cover from a bad crush washer when I switched to the dual oil coolers.
Modify the V-Mount intercooler to meet up with the charge pipe from the turbo better and get rid of the 5"+ 45 elbow coupler to make it a single straight coupler.
Add an intake pipe to the turbo to get the filter to clear the Air Pump better and move the filter closer to the nose.
Make and install a self maintaining catch can that drained into the secondary drain port.
Fix the exhaust leak from my incompitence (Ended being the V-Band where the turbo meets the Manifold).
Tune
We were not able to get the car done in time for Friday so Chris came back in on Saturday morning to get it completed. The car now runs absolutely amazing, no problems what so ever (except for the first place I took it it gets a hit and run in the parking lot while I'm at a party.
99 Spec Front End here I come. )
The car made 290rwhp on Wastegate spring
348rwhp @ 1 Bar
378rwhp @ 1.2 Bar and Race Gas
In the end, I will not take my car anywhere else to do any major stuff. I can't thank those guys up in Garland enough. Thank you Chris, Dave, Brandon, Matt, and Mary for everything.

Thanks for reading my novella,
