Wont Go into Gear

I had a mechanic swap my old tranny because it was stuck in Reverse, and now w/ the new tranny wont go into gear when the vehicle is on, but when the car is off it slips right into gear. Where should I start ? I NEED HELP ASAP !!!
I have a 1993 RX7 BTW

I think either your slave cylinder or your pilot bearing is toast.
