Will an 88 motor work in my 90?

Hi all,

I've got a 90 GXL auto with a blow seal on the rear rotor. I'm looking at buying an 88 motor. I was told that I would need to change out the front covers for them to interchange, but that's all. Is it really that simple? Is there anything else that would need to be done? Are these 2 engines identical other than that?

Thanks,

E

yes and no, 88 motor will work if........ you use the block only, you get the appropriet rear counter weight, and you change the front cover. Use ALL you 90 parts (entire intake, front cover, OMP, water paump, etc.) The 86-89 motors have lower compression and HEAVIER rotors there for you need a different rear counter weight. You will experience a performance loss due to heavier and lower compression, but it will work.

Eck! I don't want anything that isn't the same as what's in there. Anyone else know about this? Heavier rotors and lower compression? Doesn't sound good to me.

Thanks all
