What would be the downside to this?

I have a 87 GLX that will flood everytime I park it outside overnight or dont't start it for a few days. Recently I clamped off the fuel line and cranked the car until it started. It cut off after a few seconds. I released the clamp on the fuel line and it started right up. I use the car mostly to drive to work and don't have alot of time to unflood it. This method has the car running in about a minute. I was thinking of putting a valve in the fuel line to make this procedure easier. My question is, am I causing some sort of damage to the engine or fuel pump, or is this a safe method to get the car started.

Thank you

Victor S.

Seems just as safe as what everyone else does... installing a fuel pump cutoff switch. They crank the engine, but with the switch flipped, pump sees no power and thus the engine sees no fuel. Same thing, and easier b/c you only have to cut one wire and it can be done inside the car, from the dash.

sounds like a good idea. Also as long as you dont leave that valve half open or anything that could possibly cause it to run lean you should be fine. I would alos recomend this idea to any one else that has the flooding problem in an FC.
