What R Symptoms of Blown Coolant Seals?

I have been battling a long coolant problem i was getting an annoying buzzer constantly so i replaced radiator cap, water pump, and thermostat. I have to say the buzzer has not gone off quite as much. I have burped it several times and it seems to last for about 1 day then the buzzer is going off again, i check the coolant level and it is about 1/2 pint low. I have aftermarket temp gauge and i am not overheating while buzzer is going. It seems that it only goes off when i'm stopped, but i burped it and it would buzz at stops, when i got home i popped the hood and i noticed my loss coolant is going to my overflow coolant reservoir, and bubbles/air is coming out of the overflow down tube? Please Help? What R the syptoms of blown coolant seals. my car smokes for about 1-2 minutes in the morning and after i park it and come back 10 hrs after work it doesn't smoke at all it's only the first start of the day. The bubbles in the coolant tank are also intermittent but get worse the longer i drive? my overflow tank is fillingup and overflowing and i have to empty it is it a bad radiator, or what please helpl must get to work.

Sorry bro, but bubbles in the radiator/reservoir are usually signs of blown coolant seals. The fix for this, unfortunately, is a complete overhaul/tear down accompanied with a rebuild.

You might want to throw this in the 2nd gen tech section, as well, more people are usually reading/posting in there. You can also do a search (should always do this anyway, most stuff has been covered many times before), and see how many other people have had this problem (many) to help narrow it down.

Others will probably agree with me, but hopefully I am wrong.

Good luck,
James

Your coolernt seals are gone. I had the same trouble. I have my motor apart now as I read you could re-use seals. You cant.

I have photos which I will post.

Overheating

I just had a similar problem. A little bluish smoke (oil) is OK but white sweet smelling (antifreeze) smoke = bad. My car would drive fine for about 20-30 minutes depending on what the RPM's were and then it would get very hot very fast. The engine seemed to run fine it would just get incredibly hot. The other odd thing it would do is that just the passenger side of the radiator would get hot. The drivers side was almost cool to the touch. Anyway I put another engine in and it is now fine. Sorry, it sounds like you have blown seals. I'm not sure what is the best way to deal with this. I had an engine lined up and the swap was the quickest, easiest thing for me. I'll have the old engine rebuilt when I get around to it. If you have the engine rebuilt it may be a little more expensive but you have the piece of mind that you have an essentially brand new engine. Good luck.

If you want to keep that new engine, replace your clogged radiator. That is the only way to have cool spots, is that part of the rad is plugged.

I have a simular problem that might be related.

I dont think this will help you with your problem but I have a fist gen RX7 and I overheated it. My indicator light was going off for a long time and I dident think much of it becuse it never overheated. I was driving it and it blew the hose to the oil cooler and overheated but not redlined. I thought it was fine after I replaced the hose and I drove it home but now it wont start so I think you do have a seal problem. If its running I sugest you rebuild it or jsut have it checked out. If you have any comments for me I need them mine still wont start.

sounds like the coolant seals to me ... what you described with the overflow tank sounds like the system is being pressurized. take the exhuast off after the motor has sat long enough to get cold. turn the engine by hand and see if coolant starts pouring out of the ports. my guess is, it will. same thing happened with the motor i'm taking out of my car now.

you'll have to rebuild that engine, no way around it.
