what is porting yes its a dumb question but what is it

what do you guys mean by porting your intake or porting your engine please fill me out by what you mean ?? sorry for the dumb question

It's not a dumb question. Porting is widening the holes (or ports) in your engine that take in air/fuel and release exhaust (although sometimes only the exhaust port is widended). Think of it this way. When you are running hard you need to breathe and expel more air, just like your engine. Porting would be like widening your esophagus so that you coud breathe more easily. If your car is mostly stock, I doubt you will see much of a performance gain after porting your engine. However, if you plan on getting anything more than BPU (Basic Power Upgrades), porting will become essential in getting the expected performance out of your upgrades. Think of porting like increasing the potential energy of your engine. The potential energy is harnessed by other upgrades.
