What engine oil for stock 93 RX7

Hello,

I just bought a 1993 RX7. It is bone stock and I intend to keep it that way. The dealer changed the oil before I bought it with conventional Castrol 10w-40. Is this an OK oil to use? I just dont know what kind of oil (brand or weight) is a good oil that is commonly used with a stock third generation rx7. Can someone fill me in on what people around here would use in my situation? I am coming from the WRX world where it is common to use a synthetic 5W-40 but I just dont know what kind of oil for my new RX7. My manual says no synthetic and only talks about 5w-30 and 10w-30?

Thanks,
Drew

Idemitsu synthetic is made specifically to be burnt in a rotary. Most synthetics leave residue that is not good for the plugs and seals of a rotary when burnt (omp injection).

Maybe some one else can guide you better, or just search. Tons of threads on oil.

10w-30 and mix your regular gas with 2 stroke engine oil and you should be fine.the 2 stroke keeps the rotors lubricated

I use 20-50 in the summer and 10-30 in the winter. Castrol GTX always, I never put synthetic oil in my RX-7.
Not that synthetic is bad or anything, I just change my oil regularly and see no reason to spend twice as much money.

+1

but 10W-40 or 15W40 aren't bad alternatives for lower mile engines in summer.

No one has ever discussed what kind of oil to use in a rotary.

Thanks for starting this thread!

Why does the mileage of the engine matter? Just curious as to why you mentioned it in relation to your oil choice.

I also use 20w50 castrol GTX.

As the original owner of my ‘87 RX-7, I’ve only ever used 10W-30. But I am living in Canada and it is only driven in the summer.
