Were the rotor housings designed with PP/semi-PP in mind?

Were the rotor housings designed with PP/semi-PP in mind?

It seems odd that there is a spot in the casting that looks almost like it was designed to be turned into an intake port...
Or was this just a leftover artifact from when the engines were PP?

That's where the coolant passage was for intake manifold heat for carburetors.

A heated intake manifold requires a lot less accelerator pump because the fuel is less likely to condense on the runners when the pressure goes from vacuum to near atmospheric, so emissions and fuel economy improve.

Now the part that baffles me... you know the spot on the rear housing for the coolant nipple for the throttle body coolant hose on fuel injected cars?

Why do the housings from pre injection 12A/13B have a boss there?

Do you mean where this plug (#34) is? No clue. This came up in another thread and it first appears on the RX-2.

I didn’t even know the stock turbo was water cooled, haha…

It clearly was never designed for alternate porting. Because if it was, then it was poorly executed by having to bridge between or block off the coolant jacket running through there.
