Weird starting problem when it rains

Hi guys I got a weird idle problem with my 87 rx7. When I start her up after it has rained or there has been light showers the car starts up then the rpms go crazy jumping up and down for about 5-7 minutes. During this time if I try to step on the gas the car just shudders and shakes and the rpms just kind of stay the same as if there was no fuel or spark or something. I know my hood has some slight imperfections on the sides. I thought one of my coils was getting some water on it so I covered up the leading one because that is where I thought the water was leaking to. Nothing though it still happens every time it rains.(Only after it as rained) Any suggestions?

Thanks and sorry for the long post

Jon

If you have marginal ignition wires, and especially if they are dirty; when it rains you most likely have condensation on them and other car parts. This causes
the shorting of the system. Dirt + moisture = lower impendance.

How clean is your engine compartment?

I have seen cars that would not start just because they were filthy and the weather was rainly or very damp.

What do you mean by marginal wires? The condensation part you talked about was exactly what I was thinking, and could be attributed to the slightly raised hood that I have. (the hood is like bent or has some imperfections on the sides where the coils are). My engine bay is not filthy but could use a bit of cleaning I'll try that and I'm gonna try to get some new plug wires.
Thanks for the advice

what he means by marginal is, are they old? are they cracked? when you bend them do they make a sound like you are eating crackers?

i hope that helps.

Oh ok thanks for the info. The wires are pretty much new I just bought them couple months back, unless they were defective. I'm gonna order some Jacobs wires and ngk plugs from Rx-7.com anyhow. Anyone have any good or bad things to say about Jacobs wires?
Also my car has the problem that when I start her up the oil pressure is fine but she smokes a bit when I acclerate hard. After she is properly warmed up the oil pressure goes down and she stops smoking. Any suggestions as to what could be the problem. Could it be an o-ring or main seal. Any help on this would be great!! Thanks

For a quick fix you could try WD 40 or CRC just spray it on/round electrical connectors where you think the problem is, it will keep moisture at bay
