wastegate

Does anyone know if the stock fd wastegate can be converted to dump pressure to atmosphere instead of internally.If not can i put a external wastegate on stock twins.Thanks in advance Roy(UK).

You mean the BOV (Blow-Off Valve)? The wastegate diverts exhaust away from the turbo. The BOV diverts pressurized fresh air away from the IC or throttle body.

Could be talking about a wastegate........but probably not. I've seen wastegates and BOVs vented to the atmosphere.

If you do mean wastegate, that would be a huge pain in the *** if it was at all possible. I am inclined to think it isn't possible, because you would have to do some welding to the manifold (good luck) to divide the wastegate outlet from the primary turbo outlet. They are right next to each other and dump into the center outlet manifold.

Installing an external wastegate would be similarly difficult. You'd have to do a bunch of cutting a welding to the cast iron turbo manifolds, which I don't think holds much promise.
