turbo 2 down on power

Hi there everyone, i've just finally joined the forum, I have brought a UK turbo 2 rx7, its nothing special, but i've had a new turbo fitted b4 i got it, and i have fitted a full HKS hyper system with a modified HKS front pipe, now i don't know a lot about what power these should run but it seems very flat, the engine doesn't smoke ever, rev's smoothly (possibly a little flat again though) and on the road, it seems to rely on turbo boost to get it moving. The problems are that after a 5 mile drive, the turbo has clearly been working too hard as it is lit up as if you have been trying to reach 200mph or something, somewhere something isn't right, if anyone has any ideas, i would appreciate any suggestions, thanks all, James

turbo

I brought the car of a turbbo specialist who had replaced the turbo with a new standard item, the customer never paid him so he sold it on, the car had never been run with the new turbo as it also had no exhaust, i brought it and fitted the HKS exhaust and front pipe and found that it needed a de-cat. The front pipe loses the pre-cat so i made up a decat pipe but this only caused it to overboost, i sourced a cat for it which has now sorted the overboosting problem just about, ie: if in 3rd @ 30mph and you put your foot flat, when the boost climbs it just peaks over the max on the standard guage on the dash, but most of the time it seems ok, although i don't know what the standard boost should be anyway. its a bit of a weird one, but any help would be great

1) check the timing - it might be retarded
2) check that ALL spark plugs are firing - dead leading coil will cause symptoms as you describe

As i'm not familiar with these engines, i'm a little clueless on adjusting the timing, i think the coils may be faulty, i had tried another plug on the leads the spark wasn't great. I know where i can get some coils from today so i'll go and pick them up, and see where that takes us, thanks

Oh, that's not too good. We need to get into a basic primer on basic adjustments on these vehicles, and that's going to take a lot of typing. Do you have like a manual handy? Either the Mazda factory service manual or even a Haynes one?

well i've tried the coils and that doesn't seem to have made any difference, i don't have any manuals or anything for the car, so i tink its time i went out and found one, although i very much doubt haynes do one over here, most people in the uk are scared of even going near them! i'm assuming that everything is on the car as it should be but there are a few wires some near the pressure sensor and some near the coil nearest the headlight that aren't connected to anything? also there are some above the plugs that seem to lead to nowwhere? I'm starting to dislike this car, but i'm sure someone can turn my opinion around

The extra 6-pin white plug on the passenger side corner is a AAS plug, which turbos did not come with (yet Mazda kept it on the harness anyways) - it should be unplugged.

The stuff on the other side is for diagnostics checker and jumper - both should be green plugs. Yeah, there's a bunch that doesn't lead anywhere.

There are Haynes manuals available in CZ, so I'm sure finding one in the UK should be easy. It's better than nothing in case you can't get your hands on a factory service manual.

Hell, there's .pdf files floating around on the web - try http://www.fc3s.org/ !
