Transmission Tail Housing Swap Question

I'm putting a second-gen turbo tii 13b into a non-Mazda project car (Austin Healey Sprite). The problem is that the shifter location is too far rearward. In reading about the Grassroots Motorsports Magazine "Ro-Spit" project car (rotary engine into a Triumph Spitfire), they say:

"...use the tail shaft housing from an early '80s B2000 Mazda pickup. This moves the shifter about three inches forward of the 1979-80 transmission location and about six inches forard of the later transmissions. It is a direct bolt-on."

Has anyone here done this type off tail housing swap, expecially on a TII turbo tranny? It sounds ideal for my project.

Any advice would be welcome!
Thanks,
Mark

It only works on the N/A trans. I used this in my Midget.

We have also developed a shortened version for 81-91 "Remote" shifter tailshafts that moves the shifter further forward than possible by just cutting and remounting the control box to the 2 forward mouning bolts. Our mod puts the shifter within 1/2" from the B2000 location.

Contact me at K 2 M o t o r sp o r t s@msn.com (no spaces) and I can send pics.

the 87-93 b2600 has a turbo style trans, with the further forward shifter, BUT the transmission is also tilted to one side 20-30 degrees....

Sorry J9FD3S, but I'm a little slow today. What you're saying is that, aside from the fact that the tranny is tilted to the side, if I source a 87-93 B2600 tailshaft, it will bolt onto a TII tranny and move the shifter forward?

And Brian, do you think your shifter mod that you sent the pics of (thanks for the pics, by the way!) would work on a TII tranny in a similar fashion that it does on the NA tranny?

Thanks guys!

Mark,

I'm really not sure if it can be done to the TII trans. I don't have a TII trans in my garage to referance, but I'm sure there is a way to do it. I'm just not sure if it would be the same method that we use on the NA tailshaft.
