tranny won't go into gear 87 tii

Okay so I just got an 87 tii for pretty cheap. The only problem is that it won't go into gear..
The guy I got it from said his mec. was in reverse getting the car out of the shop and heard a pop. Since then the car won't go into gear. If u start the car in say 1st gear it will kinda "hop" forward if that makes sense. I had a friend come look at it and he said it didn't look like the clutch fork is broken.
Any other ideas on what it could be? Sunday I am takin the tranny out to see if I can locate the problem but any help or advice will be appreciated! Thanks!

Or the clutch fork...

But most likely the pilot bearing. Mine did the same thing and it was a whole wealth of issues that cause the spun pilot bearing.

I had a tranny that had the secondary shaft break right in front of the reverse gear. How does the shifter feel? Can you feel the detents forward and back? If the car is started in gear with the clutch in does it run? It may be stuck in two gears if the shaft broke or shift linkage is messed up.

most common problems are pilot bearings or throw out bearings. I recently replaced both. if your taking it out buy them both... i think i paid $20 for both and i got the JDM throw out bearing which is stronger i beleive. I bet its the throw out bearing because it sounds to me the clutch is locked up.
