Tranny help?
Ok guys, a friend and I are looking to drop a 12a into a 'go-kart' type chassis. For class racing, and want to run a 5spd trans(o/d for back straight). I have always heard the rx7's use a 'slip type' clutch. I don't understand. Is it hydraulically actuated, or mechanically via cable/linkage?
If it is a hydraulic actuation, can I somehow switch to manual actuation? I have a couple spare Borg/Warner T5's laying around, could I bolt one of those up to it, with proper spacing/alignment plates between the t5 bellhousing/12a?
I tried searching for transmission faq and other basic tranny info threads but had no luck. Sorry to ask such a broad question. Hopefully someone has some info. I was thinking I could make a spacer/adapter plate for the t5, then just use a bushing to take the slop out of the e-shaft snout/input shaft, or mill the input shaft down to specs to fit. Dunno if this is a good idea/feasible.
Thanks guys!
