T2 exaust question

I recently replaced the exhaust gasket between the turbo and down pipe and I can still feel it blowing past. I scraped away the Improvised gasket that the previous owner used that wasn’t working either so the surfaces were clean. Is there some sort of compound that I failed to use? Mabey something that I need to lather in that will harden and fill in the gaps as it were? I faintly remember something like that but my mind fails me.

file the mating surfaces down flat-fill in any metel missing with jb weld -then file flat so mating surfaces sit perfectly together(so you can't see any light between them) new gasket and your good to go.
