Swap auto to 5 speed

Does anyone know what all would need to be changed to change an auto 93 FD to a 5 speed?(besides the obvious: tranny) From what i can tell i think all that i would have to change is the tranny, instrament cluster, center plastic (arround shifter). But i think that the computer might be different and also that the engine housing, and starter is also? Thats what im not sure about. I dont care about keeping the engine because it is blown. My plans for the car originaly was to put a ls1 in it but i dont have quite enough money at the time. This is just a thought, or i might just end up selling it and buying another FD already to go.

thanks
-austin

Well first off the FD is nothing like the FCs drivetrain. It still isnt simple in the FD you need the pedals, driveshaft, rear end, starter, master cylinder, slave cylinder, wiring for the manual trans, ecu, shifter, and manual shifter center counsel and all the related boost and what not.

I am sure there is a right up some were on the the forum if you search for it. Also why are you asking the question if your going to put a ls1 in it? And why not buy a 5speed to start with?

Cool

I've come to see that I only needed the following to complete a 5spd conversion.

-Transmission - Twin Turbo 5 spd is the easiest to swap in.
-Pedals - The automatic pedals are much too large and cutting them down would be fucked up since you need the clutch pedal anyway just buy the brake one too.
-Master/Slave cylinder - You need these to make the clutch work properly.
-Clutch
-Flywheel - You need this because the automatic flywheel has a counterweight attached directly to it. Mine as well get a lightweight so you have more performance too.
-Counterweight - You need a counterweight appropriate to the flywheel weight/size to match the front counterweight.
-Starter - Automatic is different front the manual.
-Shifter and related interior.
-Transmission harness - You can make the automatic harness work very easily.
-Engine housing - Never heard any problems before.
-ECU - You need a manual ECU, so you mine as well upgrade to an aftermarket ECU.

Hopefully this helped and I may be wrong with some of this but I am just saying from personal research and experience.

Add :
Manual Diff and Manual Drive Shaft.

You can get the manual drive shaft to work with the automatic diff, with some NEAT, lathe controlled drilling to keep everything centred.

Manual ECU was not needed on my conversion. The auto worked fine.

If you are doing this swap, my suggestion would be get all the parts as above and what I've said, get a mechanic mate (if you have one), four good jackstands and at least one good hydraulic roller jack and 3 days (can be easily done in 2 days with 2 people).

Dont forget a flywheel locker. And the watch for the auto transmission, she's one heavy bitch.

i just recently bought a 93 rx7 with a conversion from auto to five speed and i when i downshift or when i engage a little harsh i hear a loud bang from the back of the car. Could this possible be the differential or could this be due to the tranny swap? thx
