TX Strange clutch wear pattern on disc and flywheel

I just bought a new used engine and discovered a ORC 409. The disc and the flywheel have a very strange groove. The groove on the edge of the flywheel is about .3 mm more worn than the rest of the flywheel. Also there is an equal protrusion on the edge of the clutch disc. The pressure plate and that side of the disc are smooth as a babys behind.

Any ideas what may have cause this and do yall think the flywheel can still be machined?

yes it can be machined, but what I see is the disk has the same wear mark and the splines look dry, this may have caused the disk to rear on the flywheel while the clutch was disengaged. just a thought. Have you done a run out on the flywheel face where the disc rides? My practice was if there is less than .002 to .005 run out, do not machine, but ruff it up with a course scotch brite on a high speed die grinder and reinstall. It will not chatter and more meat on the surface means you will get more life out of the flywheel, machine it and you loose life by removing material.
just my opinion.

Should I machine down the bolt posts on the flywheel as well?

the post height to disc face MUST remain the same. as with any stepped flywheel if you machine the surface the mounting face of the pressure plate must be machined down the same depth.
