I have a 1986 2nd gen rx7 that will start and run if you give it gas but if you let off the gas it will choke itself out and die. I put on new plugs and wires. what next?

 

AFM is bad? Blown motor? Compression check? Search and troubleshoot.

Need more details.

 

i heard maf are comon for going out on these, is that true

 

MAF?

Air Flow Meter. Underneath the stock air box. It is a rectangular box with a flap on the front of it to Meter Air flow.

Have you done any troubleshooting?

 

Ive the same problem, though now that ive pulled the P/S and the A/C and turned the adjust screw nearly all the way out on the TB ive managed to get my 88 base to idle at 500 rpm, crappy but at least it will do it now...but i can say with certainty that i need a rebuild in the very near future.

 

Check for vacuum leaks,clogged air filter,idle air adjustment and idle set screw.Be sure to browse through an RX-7 service manual before changing any adjustments.
