Unhappy starting problem on potential 88 fc

hello, i am new to these boards, and i have a question about a potential project car. its an 88 non turbo and it has been donated. the guy who owned it before used it as his daily driver, but one day it wouldnt start. he didnt take it to a mechanic, he just donated it. i looked at it yesterday, and when you turn the key, it just clicks. just one click though, not like when the battery dies and it clicks several times. what are the chances that this is the starter motor? i am really interested in this car, as i love rx7s, and cant pass it up $400. can anyone help?

as long as the battery is FULLY CHARGED it sounds like a starter but no one can be really sure without looking at it. sweet deal if all you gotta do is put a starter on

I highly doubt he donated it just because the battery was dead or even the starter being bad. I'm not saying it's not possible but I would assume there is something more serious wrong with the car and this is just a secondary problem. I'd still pay $400 for it though.

One click sounds like the main relay; placed just to the right of the trailing coils. check it out.

Thanks for the input everyone, however, i bought the car, but now its turning over, but not starting. It wants to really bad, but it just wont catch. I'm gonna check all the ignition wiring and the plugs before i decide that its a blown motor, which it most likely is. Either way, $400 is a steal so if anything ill get another motor and swap it in.

Has anyone had any experience with the auto suspension? i.e. the switch inside that allows you to select "NORMAL" or "SPORT" mode? i have never seen this on an RX and am kind of curious as to how well it works.

Thanks again.
