Hi fellow rotaries. I have a 1988 RX-7, non-turbo. Everything is pretty much stock other than the exhaust and the tires. But I've been having troubles with starting it alot lately. During the summer, it started all the time. But when the weather got a little colder, it has been a total pain in the ***. But anyway, The only way I can get it started most of the time is by having it pushed and popping the clutch. The starter solenoid and core is brand new, as well as the fuel filter, and everything for tuning. Yet it didnt help any. I'm thinking it' something to do with the flywheel, because ive been hearing a disturbing griding sound in the bell housing. Usually it stops the sound after a while when the car has been driven for a good while, or driven fast. It only makes the sound when in neutral with the clutch disengaged, and when I push the clutch in, it stops. The flywheel may have worn ring gear teeth on it, or it may be bouncing around the bell housing, possibly griding at anything near it, because I can sometimes smell the clutch somewhat. Also ive been noticing a change in the car's acceleration power, like it sometimes doesn't want to accelerate as fast as it usually does in a normal stop & go routine. And it's been getting worse everytime I use it. My friend told me it may be the Mass Airflow Sensor, or the timing belt, but those are functioning correctly, as well as the alternator. The car also has 143,170 miles on it if that helps any.. Ive also noticed that if I let it sit overnight or for a period of 7 - 8 hours, it starts. Can anyone possibly help me with what may be wrong with it? You have my sincere thanks.
