starter? please help, and tak

I just got a 84 gsl yesterday, and the car will start up and all, but it won't kick off.

so when I wind my car up, the starter winds up, I think it might be the ignition switch, but I'm not sure... help wanted.

also my tak doesn't work/.

Pull the starter off the car. You will see 2 large terminals with nuts and one blade terminal. Use a battery and jumper cables to ground the starter and put 12 volts on the blade terminal. you should notice the gear popping out but the starter should not spin. When you remove the 12 volts the gear should pop back down. If it does not you need to replace the starter or repair it. If it does, check the teeth on the gear and your flywheel to see if the are nicked up and holding onto the starter gear.

I guess before you remove the starter check to see if the wire leading to the blade terminal has 12 volts when the key is in the start position. It should have 0 volts when the key is in any other position.

I figured it out.......

The person that owned the car before me rigged it like.... I don't even know, just crap.... there's a whole bunch of stupid stuff to it, like the reverse light is connected to it....

I'm just gonna make a switch to start it now, thanks

Yep, hooked my starter switch to my cruise control button.

I think it's cooler this way too.
