Ok i have a 1987 rx7 n/a

Ok i have the starter connected and then connect the battery A can a hear 1 relay turn on which has never happended before Then when i turn the key to the on position the car starts primeing fuel which it has never done unless its being cranked or its running. when i try to turn the car over everything shuts off and the starter doesn't move. With the starter connected to positive and negative i can unplug the other wire that activates the starter and the car doesn't turn on a relay and when i turn it on the fuel doesn't prime. so what would cause this any suggestions

Also is the wire that activates the starter supposed to be positive or negative
