Start but not idle

So I have a 1989 rx7 turbo swapped and when I turn it over it'll start up and die unless I give it gas. Just got the AFM all hooked up. Ideas?

A vacuum leak which is large will cause an engine to die immediately after starting. It could also result from having the fuel lines mixed up (JDM engines have their fuel lines reversed relative to their USDM counterparts). Could also be caused by a restriction in the fuel line, including the primary fuel injectors.

At one point the throttle cable was too tight so it would kick up to 4,000 RPMS and keep climbing until I shut it off. I loosened it and now it does this. Would the issues you mentioned still be in play?

the simple answer is yes. do you know if your engine is USDM or JDM? your recent engine swap also makes me think vacuum leaks are likely.

I bought it from a local guy who just had it rebuilt and he said he didn't really wanna be in the car scene anymore. I believe it's JDM by the what the intercooler says. Intercooled turbo rotary or something of the sort. And what would you advise for checking for vacuum leaks?

I also have set the timing as far as the dot on the CAS and the E shaft pulley. But that's all for timing

Ok so I just started it up and it will stay running if I'm giving it gas. As soon as I let off it dies. Does this help?

When I sit there and rev it or hold gas it dies still. Thoughts? I'm really struggling

I had the exact same problem and it turned out my aftermarket intake wasn't secured properly. Once it was secured, it idled fine.
