Some turbo troubles

My car is an 87 turbo no modifications internally. The external modifications include a megasquirt ecu and an s5 hybrid turbo. So the engine was rebuilt by a guy in my area who I was suggested to go see by a mod on this forum. I have finally gotten all together and running/idling well but it started off with lots of smoke from the turbo. I had disassembled all turbo related parts cleaned all gasket surfaces again because oil leaked out of every seam. I replaced the turbo-manifold gasket that I didn't first time around. Also replacing the feed and drain lines using -an lines and a restricter on the turbo thus turbo uses a air research chra and s5 exhaust housing. So my two problems are the oil leaking out of the turbo/exhaust, it leaks from any seam starting from the block-manifold back to the end of the down pipe that's not completely hooked up yet. Last problem is my oil feed line and drain line don't have any oil in them as if the turbo has been getting no oil.

Pull the oil feed off and start the engine and hopefully oil will squirt everywhere. If it does connect it back up and remove the oil drain and start engine again and check for oil flow.
Is it possible the chra is 180 degrees out and your feeding in through the drain?

you have to lock the turbo wheel if you are going to do a feed oil test and only run the engine for a short time.

how long has the engine run for? i wouldn't be concerned with any smoke until the engine has at least an hour of run time on it.

if it's been running longer than that and there is smoke coming from the flange of the manifold to the block then the engine is leaking oil or coolant internally which is causing the smoke.

after looking at the pictures it appears to be a faulty turbine oil seal, but that is just a guess. you can take the turbo off and inspect the manifold, if the manifold is oily inside before the turbo then the engine is at fault. if the oil starts after the turbine wheel then the turbine seal is at fault.

I have the exact same issue. I'll let you know if that fixes my issue
Going to install a catch can so I can vent the Crankcase. If that doesn't fix it I will add a oil restrictor to the feed line.

I tested to see if the feed was getting oil it was and the turbo drained fine so that left the turbo. I'm very surprised at how clean the feed and drain looked considering they were actually getting oil. So I when checking the turbo it was clearly leaking from behind the shields so I took the dive and disassembled it. Turns out who ever rebuilt lets just say didn't do a very good job. To make the s5 shields fit it looked like some material had to be shaved away and his tool of choice was an angle grinder so after some careful filing I got it so the shields sat flat. It's not perfect but I'd like to take the car out at least to my parents home to store the car then send the turbo out to be looked over and built properly. So the oil leak was coming from the fact that no piston ring was installed on the shaft so I had a good turbo with a bad fan and borrowed the ring for temporary use. The car will go back together tomorrow with hopes everything is good I just am not sure if the restricter is needed or not it is a journal bearing turbo I just don't want to run to small of a restricter and run it to dry.
