Side seal Spring Assembly

Hi Guys,
I just want to check something as I have seen and been told both ways here and want to make double sure the paint markings on my replacement springs are correct.
So when fitting the side seal springs the manual says the paint marks should face down. In turn can anyone confirm what way that will result in the ends of the spring face. Will the spring ends face up or down?
Also with the side seals does the end need to get chamfered off slight as the image in the 13B manual would suggest? i.e a new full length seal fits just fine in one of the positions. do I need to lap/angle one or both ends or can it just go in as supplied from Mazda> I cannot see a good reason other than to remove the sharp downward face corner so it does no try and channel into the corner seal?

Thank you
Lee
