Side seal Spring Assembly

Hi Guys,
I just want to check something as I have seen and been told both ways here and want to make double sure the paint markings on my replacement springs are correct.
So when fitting the side seal springs the manual says the paint marks should face down. In turn can anyone confirm what way that will result in the ends of the spring face. Will the spring ends face up or down?
Also with the side seals does the end need to get chamfered off slight as the image in the 13B manual would suggest? i.e a new full length seal fits just fine in one of the positions. do I need to lap/angle one or both ends or can it just go in as supplied from Mazda> I cannot see a good reason other than to remove the sharp downward face corner so it does no try and channel into the corner seal?

Thank you
Lee

The ends of the side seal springs always should face upwards, towards you. I wouldn't worry about any paint marks, as I've seen new oil control ring paint marks be incorrect (scary but true).

On new side seals pay close attention to the end that is more squared off, that's the one that needs to be filed at an angle to seat in against the corner seal. The other end you should leave as is and file the squared off end at a similar angle. If a new side seal (with asymmetric ends) fits in your slot as-is, then I wouldn't recommend using it-- get a longer one and file down. I like to go on the tight end of OEM spec (which has a [too] generous range) to aid in compression and help minimize fuel blowby into the oiling system.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the reply.. I found some other info online and all sorted and back together now. Springs were wrongly marked so glad I checked that out!
