rx7 stuck in reverse

Unhappy rx7 stuck in reverse

so my friend last night was rowing gears while my car was parked and now im stuck in reverse and i can put it into 1st and 2nd but its still in the reverse gear, help please dont know what it could be.

Your friend might have F'ed up your trans when he was "rowing gears", was he using the clutch when he did so?

look up "transmission field repair" for miata and non turbo transmissions.

I would suspect it's the same issue that Miata's suffer from since the internals of our transmission and the Miata's are very very similar. It has to do with the reverse gear switch and the selector going past the ident point which the reverse gear switch is supposed to stop from happening. The above linked you tube video discusses the problem along with the fix. I can not confirm that the updated reverse switch that is discussed in the above video will fit an RX7. But you could continue to use your reverse switch. If it continues to happen I'd replace it or order both parts and compare the two switches to see if they are the same dimensions.

i believe mazda superseded all the reverse switches after the TSB was released, including the RX7 counterpart.

thank you guys alot i took off the switch but couldnt get my hand in there so i took it to a shop and told them how to do it and showed them the video, hopefully it works.
