rx7 airboat
I'm contemplating buying an airboat powered by an rx-7. What are your thoughts/opinions on such an airboat for performance and reliability?
The mazda dealership in Lake Charles, LA told me they would not work on an rx-7 airboat.
I live in Lake Charles, LA. Where could I find someone to service such an engine closeby?
Thanks for your thoughts/help,
tom

good choice lots of power for the engine weight but you should get the aviator's guide to mazda rotary conversion to know what to watch for . Like oil temp and pressure and engine mods . I was going to put one in an airboat but built a hovercraft instead.

Does the rx7 require a lot of TLC or is it like everyready batteries and go on and on and on ....?
How does your rx7 powered hovercraft perform?

Keep it cool and keep it oiled and they're very reliable. In other words, a good aftermarket install of the oil and water cooling sytems is mandatory as well as your attention to same.

That sounds very cool Tom. Can you post some photos for us? I have thought about such a craft for the water here - the Susquehanna , which is a mile wide and only several feet deep on average. Many rocks protruding the surface of the water, many hiding just below the water line.

Before investing in this boat, I was trying to ascertain what kind of engine the 13b rx-7 is and what your opinion is on how it would perform and hold up.
You guys on this forum are experts with the mazda rx7 engine, thus the post.
Additionally, I was wondering if anyone knew someone who services the rx7 engine in the Beaumont/Houston Texas area in case the engine needed some work. The Mazda dealer in Lake Charles, LA indicated they would not perform any service on this engine.
If everything works out, I”ll gladly post some pics.

The company that was building the airboat informed me that the original price has now almost tripled. Needless to say, I'm no longer interested.
I know of one person who has an rx-7 powered airboat and sings its praises.
Thanks for your input and posts,
tom
