Question rx7 acting funny... can any1 help???

after driving my car for a few days i noticed that sometimes when i would stop at a light (in nuetral) the idle would run really low and eventually stall out. sometimes i could save it by hitting the gas. well this happened on and off for a little while until one day it stalled and i couldnt start it back up. i cut the fuel via a switch i installed and cranked it to make sure it wasnt flooded. cut it back on and still nothing. to make a long story short i had it towed to a nearby shop. its not a rotary shop, but the guy was able to start it by pouring oil into the intake manifold. it would only idle at 1.5k and above and did so for about 5 minutes, or at least until all of the smoke dissipated and then stalled again. we poured more oil, it ran fine and then died a few minutes later. i left the car there not wanting to drive it home in that condition. the guy said it was the apex seals (just had a rebuild 5k ago) so im not sure this is the problem. can anyone give me advice on what to look for? im new to rx-7s. thanks in advance

You should check the compression (or have it checked) when the engine has reached normal temperature (not cold).
The symptoms you describe could be of a bad engine.

If compression is ok, the 'stall at red light' symptom could be coming from:

- charging system malfunction (battery,alt,wires)
(have the system checked under load at autozone or the likes for free). If the battery is old or has been discharged and recharged a few times, I would replace it (around $40).
- tps misadjusted (you should make sure the idle speed is adjusted properly while you're at it)
- bac valve not operating
- bad ecu
