rx-7/rx-8 motor swap
my poor rx-7's motor is shot, and instead of rebuilding i was wondering about dropping in an rx-8 motor from a junkyard... might this work? would i need to drop the whole drivetrain? would it fit? any comments? anything?

i really want to stick with the rotary...if i wanted a v8 i would have bought a beat up c4 vette or mustang 5.0... i'm just really not sure if this is possible... i really need to know how different the motors are and how much modification is needed to the mounts, etc.

The RX-8 motor isnt that great anyways -- bad for turbo applications and doesnt create NEAR as much power as the 13-BREW. It'd be a downgrade IMHO.
Now, a 13-BREW or even a 20b in a RX-8... now that is YUM!

It's not the engine that won't respond, it's the complex OEM engine managment programming.
I think with an aftermarket enigine control this would make an awesome swap. Based on these prices it would be worthwhile for the power.
Good luck,
Vernon

one of the main concerns with dropping the rx-8 motor is the electronics... but if i drop the whole drivetrain the computer wouldnt know the difference, right?
will it just think its still in the rx-8????

Stick with your FD motor. More power potential. No automotive 'swap' is ever easy. You are looking at many many months of frustration and wasted cash---being a pioneer usually sucks.
