Rx-7 Daily driver?
Rx-7 Daily driver?
I was looking into getting a new car and I was considering an Rx-7. I wouldnt sup it up at all I would basically leave it all stock. But I hear these cars are very unreliable. Are these cars good reliable daily drivers? Which generation would be the best to get for that purpose?
In stock form, a properly maintained NA should go 250,000 miles.
A turbo that's driven agresively, should go 100,000 before needing a rebuild.
My tuned up turbo is my only car daily driver.

My first 7 was a '91 N/A and it was my DD for 6 years. I rebuilt the engine when I first got it and put over 100K on it before it was wrecked. Now I have an '87 N/A and it is every bit reliable as was my first one. Change the oil every 3000, use Castrol 10W-30 and keep it in tune. These cars are more reliable that most piston bangers.
How much money do you have to buy a car with? And are you looking at any specific year? My 79 is my DD and it has around 75k miles on it and I bought it with 57K. It took me alot of work for me to get it to run the way it does now. I would suggest buying an RX7 with either fairly low miles or a rebiut engine to be on the safe side , also the amount of money you spend to buy the car will reflect on how much it will cost you to keep the car running.
I bought my '94 Touring model with 69k and 500 miles on Mazda reman engine. Now it's at 127k and have only had to put in a radiator, alternator, and a coolant sensor, and intake temp sensor. I put a downpipe on as a reliability mod. Car has never broken down, never left me stranded. Love it to death. Drive it every day, now I commute 50+ miles each way to work with no problems. About 23ish mpg on highway.

ive been daily driving these things since 94..... the reliability myths are just that. if you're not dumb these cars are simple and easy to work on. ive seen more than a few cars, where they have had something as simple as a blown intake gasket condem the whole car to the junkyard, but the same mechanic can find a blown intake gasket on his chevy.....
