Running Issue 1981

Just started with RX-7's and I love working on it. Currently doing some body work and repairing some rust issues under the storage compartment and the seal area around the rear glass.

Anyway I noticed that the previous owner had the chocked pulled out and blocked so it would not fully close.

I removed the spacer and it would skip on acceleration and backfire bad on decel.

Pull the choke and it stops.

I assume I need a carb rebuild. What area of the carb would cause this? I think I will replace all of the vaccum lines and take off all emmission's parts and remove the rats nest.

start checking for vacuum leaks. there may be a small one somewhere in there.

another scenario is he/she messed with the carburetor and it's now running lean, then they started using the choke to richen it as a Band-Aid. get a copy of the FSM and start troubleshooting the carburetor. follow the procedures to start adjusting fuel/air mixtures from scratch.
