hi guys i just bought a 79 rx7, a couple of ?s theres oil getting thrown around by the fan what seal would that be?and when i turn the key the rpm goes why up until i start it(my guess is that some regulator is shot,or at least i hope thats all).also it doent want to go in fifth gear(the guy i got it from claims the clutch was just redone.i need some tips quick guys i have to get this thing going asap,thanks,also what oil would you rx7 guys recomend?

 

sounds like the oil is possibly coming from the front moint oil cooler located directly below the radiator or one of the lines that go from the engine to the oil cooler...i would check those first, i think on the 79's the rpm gauge doubles as a voltage-meter, the number on the gauge that go 11-12-13-14...something like that, i think when you have the engine not running but key on it shows you voltage....and third if it goes into all gears excpet 5th there is prolly something wrong with your gearbox not clutch, but thats just my opinion, and know that ive been the nice guy and answered you questions, i would like to let you know that most members on this board get upset when ppl ask these types of question, because if you do a simple search you'll find everything you need plus an assload more...anyway welcome to the rx-7 community, and if you need some parts for that 79 let me know i can prolly help you out....
