Resurface plates/housings?

Well I'm pretty sure I've lost an oil control ring.... Runs fun but smokes worse than a freight train... Anyway, I'm going to pull it next Tuesday to start the rebuild. Is it a must to get the plates and housings machined? As long as the chrome isn't chiping away and there is no scares would it be ok to clean it and reassemble with new seals etc..?

I have no clue on what I do and may not need to do on this rebuild. O yeah and I've never had any problems before except the lil bit of burnt oil on start up when cold. '90 GXL stock.82k mi.

Thanks in advance.

your going to need to check the plates when they are out. Look in the manual and see what the specs are. You can also look at rotary engine illustrated.com. They have a video on it from pineapple racing. Do you know anywhere to get the plates resurfaced??? Local austin or sa??? Thanks. Good luck on the build, im rebuilding mine too. Spun bearings. Now im gonna go custom turbo setup and bridge port.

/\ where abouts are you located?

Thanks for the input man. I've watched almost every single vid from pineapple about the rebuild... and porting

As long as they are in spec and have no scares I should be ok? maybe?... lol

There is a local place (un stated name) around here I called and as soon as i said 82k mi he immediatly said my housings are trash and I need new ones but they can get em for me asap... they are strictly business. my buddy had his motor rebuilt from them and he swor he would never go back. I'm on a budget (as with everybody else lol.

I have plenty of knowledgeable (sp) mechanics around my shop that can help me out and I know I guy who has rebuilt several and damn they run hard and strong. So I'm not worried about the rebuild itself. Just the damn plates and housings...

Their not local but either A-spec or Banzai racing are a couple very good places to either have things done or ask some quick tech questions. I'd do as much research as possible first, but also the Haynes general service manual is amazingly detailed on how to rebuild a rotary engine.
