removal of air pump?

I have an 88 rx7 N/A that has recently had an engine swap. I blew my engine at 138,000 and luckily found some guy who totalled a perfect 86 gxl with only 60k on the clock. I did the engine swap in a couple of weeks and i was just about ready to start the engine. All i needed was brake fluid. upon returning from the auto parts store with my brake fluid (the last thing I needed), My mechanic tells me the car had just caught fire! Apparently he tried to start it while I was at the store. The fire destroyed everything under the upper intake manifold. I was able to repair and replace all of it from the other car except for the fuel injectors. I did have some 88 turbo II injectors and I was impatient, so i swapped them in. the car now runs rich as hell but also pretty damn strong, my question is will removing the smog pump help to lean it out by not recirculating the unspent air fuel mix? any advice or comments would be appreciated

No, the air pump ADDS air into the exhaust before the catalytic converter.

You might be thinking about the EGR.

..air pump removal will do NOTHING to your motor. Removing it however(with a smog pump) may cause you to backfire a little more.

If you have converters still, it will shorten their lifespan.
