question on timing and detonation

Why do you have to retard the timing if you experience detonation?
Cuz won't this set off the spark plugs after the a/f mixture is spontaneously combusted?

No because the compression ratio in a rotary is way too low to cause a dieseling effect. It must be ignited by a spark plug if it is to be ignited at all.

so if the compression is low how do you explain the detonations?

Detonation is caused by the air/fuel mixture being ignited by compression. This is possible in a rotary engine, but only when the air fuel mixture is lean enough (lean= too much air, not enough fuel). When it gets lean, the fuel mixture is detonated by being compressed. Detonation is not as controlled or smooth as ignition. It often times causes damage to the internal components of the engine, whether it be piston or rotary.

timing issue

on that note what is the point to have too much advance timing?

I have tried to set the timing on my gslse several times with no luck.
Seems that everytime I get close to dead on it lacks major power. And well when it is out about 15 degrees it runs good but still has a slight miss.
I am running s4 rotors and housing, no emissions and s4 uim, lim, and tb with the tb mod done.

checked the timing due to a slight miss and that I was getting 150 -180 miles to a full tank.
7 has new cap, rotor, plugs, wires, 710cc injectors, and MSD coils. Running ac/ps but no emission stuff what so ever. Complete rb streetport exhaust.

Anyone have ideas?
