protecting wire from heat??

Im not talking about a heat shield. But is there something that you can wrap around the wires?? I know theres something but I dont know what its call. I have a few wires that are insulated with this fine braided typer covering. I just dont know what it is.

Wrapping them with electrical tape helps keep the plasticizers from evaporating. After the elec. tape gets brittle, just crumble it off and re-wrap.

I'm not quite sure what the "fine braided covering" is, that you are refering to... is it wrapped around the wires or is it slipped over the wires like a sheath (tube)? Items like an O2 sensor will have a black, fiberglass-like, woven sheath slipped over the wires. Great stuff, but I've only seen it when it comes with the part.

There is an excellent metal backed insulating tape made by Thermo Tec called "Thermo Shield", which is made to protect wires and hoses. Unfortunatley it looks as if you wrapped aluminum foil around everything. ThermoTec is better known for their heat insulating wrap used on headers, and such.
